Douglas Wayne Strebel
Doug Strebel will serve as President of Bluescape Resources and is the founder and CEO of Black River Capital, a leading energy focused investment bank with deep transactional and operating experience. Strebel brings a unique combination of experience as an operating executive, investment banker and tax attorney with a long and successful track record in strategy formulation, business development, financial management, tax planning, transaction structuring, negotiation and execution.
In 2003, Strebel formed Black River Capital and, among other notable energy clients, served as the lead advisor to TXU’s management, planning and executing the turnaround strategy that created over $32 billion of shareholder value and delivered returns of over 500% from 2004 to 2007.
Strebel was a Director with Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette and Credit Suisse First Boston from 2000 thru 2002. Strebel’s often unique and record breaking transactions included industry-leading companies such as Shell, Exxon, BP, Devon, Kerr McGee, Apache, Pure Resources, Unocal, Occidental, Burlington Resources, Amerada Hess, Kinder Morgan, Anadarko, Enbridge Energy Partners, CNOOC Ltd. as well as selected clients outside the energy sector. Among many groundbreaking transactions, Strebel led the first ever sale of a foreign E&P asset to a sovereign Chinese company.
Strebel started his Career at Shell Exploration & production Company, where he spent 18 years serving in various positions including: Head of Corporate Development (1997-2000) and General Tax Counsel (1995-1997). At Shell he successfully negotiated and closed over $15 billion in transactions including the formation of two the largest basin centered consolidations (Permian & Onshore California).
Strebel has law degree from the University of Houston and a Bachelor of Science in Finance degree from San Diego State University. Strebel is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the American Bar Association.
He and his wife have three children, and they live in Dallas
